A Day at the Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines Festival

What a terrific day I had at the “Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines” festival. The festival raises funds for scholarships at the Idyllwild Arts Academy and the Idyllwild Arts Center Summer Program.

Mindi Abair, headliner for today, along with her band came out with epidemic enthusiasm and fun that was maintained right to the end. The audience showing gratitude for the grand performance, was rewarded with two encores. Then Sheila E, who was watching from the wings, was invited to the stage.

Fifteen bands took to three stages today; more on this in my forthcoming article. However, I must mention that Graham Dechter, who is a graduate of the Idyllwild Arts Academy, has put together a young and talented quartet.

I also enjoyed spending time with Emily, Rene` and Linda and in making new acquaintances. Michael Gallardo, it was fun working with you today. Lola Rossi thank you for the information you shared.

Guide Dogs of the Desert Summer Fling Social Hour

What a wonderful fund raiser event for Guide Dogs of the Desert. I covered this event last night and met great people and great pups. Thank you Kim Laidlaw for: welcoming me, getting me where I needed to be and visiting with me. Thank you Joy Stadler for making me feel at home, sharing about the club and school, and introducing me to members and school staff.

Palm Springs Art Museum

Yesterday and today I have been busy at the Palm Springs Art Museum taking photos and preparing for an article. Not only is there a wide variety of important works but the viewing experience is quite refreshing, light, open and comfortable. Each gallery enticed me into the next. A big thanks to Bob Bogard, Director of Marketing Communications, for a delightful and informative tour.

I also met the owners, Jesse Gottlieb and Jay Sherman and their assistant Jim Lopez of the Muse Cafe. It is obvious they love what they do. The patrons I spoke with are as enthralled with the cafe as they are to the museum.

When I went out to the Buchard Sculpture Garden I met two fun and interesting women, Ann Reeves and her friend from France, Elizabeth Florent-Treacy.

My next trip to the Palm Springs Art Museum will be to see the MacMillan Collection. I got a sneak peak – can’t wait! Opens September 5th, 2009. And I plan a lunch at the Muse Cafe.

Native American Art Festival – Idyllwild, CA

The Native American Arts Festival was held at the Idyllwild Arts Center which began 7/12/09. The event I covered was a display of pottery from various pueblos. All of the art is created in the Traditional Method. The pottery was from the King Gallery of Scottsdale Find out more at www.desertcitiesguides.com.

Little Yellow Rose Ranch

On July 11^th I had a wonderful time taking photos and meeting new friends at the Ranch. It is located just a smidgen north of McCall Memorial Equestrian Park just outside of Idyllwild. The horses they have available to rent are great and the trails are beautiful. I will post when my article is published.

Fireworks at Palm Desert, CA

www.desertcitiesguides.com posted my article on the events and fireworks at Palm Desert Civic Center Park. There was lots of picnicking, plenty of patriots, a live band which then led to lots of dancing and then spectacular display of fireworks followed.
